Building Standards Committee

Being a part of the Building Standards Committee will help you stay up to date and informed with current and future building codes. Working with the Building Standards Committee assists individuals and groups to participate in the code development process, both nationally and statewide, and participate in other projects aimed to assist with inspections, design, or plan check.
We work closely with the State Fire Marshal’s office by attending meetings and actively involving ourselves in projects, task forces and advisory committees for a variety of code related topics as well as the state code adoption. Our committee also participates in the ICC code development process by evaluating and writing code change proposals as well as attending code committee action hearings and public comment hearings across the country. We are dedicated to maintaining an active, effective and ongoing presence in ICC and State code development and other related activities.
As with any work group we are always looking for dedicated professionals to be a part of our committee. As a committee member you will be better informed of local, state and national issues concerning the building codes. You will be able to network with other professionals in the fire and building service industry as well as the private sector.
In general, the Building Standards Committee meets via conference call when needed which is determined by the committee’s involvement in various projects and code development process timelines. Committee members also meet at the general membership meetings which are held at various locals in Northern and Central California. During the general membership meetings the Building Standards Committee uses the break out sessions to discuss building code concerns and other related topics as well as work closely with the Fire Code Committee. Attendance and participation is the key to the committees’ success.

As a committee member you will first need to be a member of the Northern California Fire Prevention Officers Association (NorCal FPO). To become a NorCal FPO Association member please visit www.firepreventionofficers.org/join/membership. To become an active participant of the Building Standards Committee please contact Rian Evitt or Jessica Walton.
As a committee we strive to be a part of the building and life safety movement. Get involved today. We look forward to working with you.
