Description: With the upcoming adoption of NFPA 72—2022, the addition of new building code language pointers to NFPA 72 and publication of the UL 2525 Two-Way Emergency Communications Systems for Rescue Assistance standard on June 12, 2020, the time of evolution is upon the industry for these systems. As more buildings are subject to two-way communications, an understanding of these systems is important. This discussion will focus on minimum standards for two-way communication system design, installation, and inspection/testing, and the coming evolution of codes and standards with emphasis on California.
